FITNESS CHALLENGES

BY WENDY ISIDRO GUDINO

“You are stronger than you think. Your strength comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.”
— Psalm 121:2

This scripture reminds us that true strength is not found in the gym or through a perfect diet plan—it comes from the Most High. As Christian women, and women in general, we face many physical and spiritual fitness challenges. Yet with God’s help, we are empowered to overcome them all.

Real Challenges Christian Women Face

For many women, maintaining fitness isn’t just about exercise—it’s a daily battle of the mind, spirit, and body. Some of the most common struggles include:

●    Feeling guilty about food choices

●    Struggling to see their bodies as the beautiful creation of God

●    Low motivation or discipline

●    Exhaustion from dieting cycles

●    Turning to food for comfort instead of prayer or rest

●    Comparing their bodies to others

●    Lack of time due to work, family, and life responsibilities

Some even question if exercising aligns with godly living. But the Scriptures affirm otherwise:

“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things.”
— 1 Timothy 4:8 (KJV)

This verse doesn’t dismiss physical fitness—it puts it in perspective. Taking care of our health enables us to better fulfill our God-given purpose.

Voices of Real Women

In speaking with women about their fitness journeys, I heard honest reflections:

●    “I feel guilty because I think it’s vanity.”

●    “I just don’t have time between work and family.”

●    “Sometimes, I don’t care anymore—I’m just tired.”

Through these conversations, a pattern emerged. The main challenges include time constraints, lack of motivation, fear of injury, mental health, and body image struggles.

Research also identifies six consistent barriers women face:

1.   Lack of motivation

2.   Lack of time

3.   Excess sugar intake leading to fatigue

4.   Excess alcohol consumption

5.   Lack of consistency

6.   Not putting themselves first

As women of faith, we often put everyone else’s needs before our own. While it’s noble to care for others, we must also care for ourselves—physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Faith as Fuel for Fitness

Faith can be the greatest source of motivation. When we surrender our health journey to God, transformation happens—not just in our bodies but in our hearts.

“God has the status of transforming my heart as I have worked to transform my body.”

This powerful truth reminds us that with His mercy, no woman is alone in her struggle.

So, to every woman reading this—whether you are a mother, wife, sister, or friend—remember:

Do not give up on yourself.

Your strength is not your own; it comes from the Lord. Keep pressing forward in faith, and let your wellness be another way you glorify the Most High.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

BY WENDY ISIDRO GUDINO

Is Meditation a Sin to God?

Many believers wrestle with this question: Is practicing meditation a sin? The truth is, it is not a sin at all. In fact, meditation—when practiced in alignment with Scripture—can be a powerful way to draw closer to the Most High and to strengthen both our spiritual and physical health.

Throughout the Bible, we are encouraged to meditate—not in an empty or worldly sense, but on God’s Word and His works.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
— Psalm 1:2 (KJV)

When our meditation is rooted in Scripture, it allows our hearts and minds to rest in His truth and brings peace to our souls.

The Physical Benefits

Meditation is not only spiritual—it offers remarkable physical health benefits as well. Regular practice has been shown to:

●    Reduce stress and anxiety levels

●    Lower depression and improve mood

●    Improve sleep quality

●    Decrease high blood pressure

●    Support heart and digestive health

These benefits allow our bodies to operate in harmony, helping us steward the temples God has given us (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

The Mental & Emotional Benefits

Mentally, meditation helps clear the mind of distractions and improve focus. It enhances our ability to think clearly, regulate emotions, and respond to challenges with grace rather than reactivity. Many who practice biblical meditation report feeling more grounded, joyful, and connected to their purpose.

This aligns with Philippians 4:8, which teaches us to focus our thoughts on things that are true, pure, and lovely.

The Spiritual Benefits

Meditation in faith—when done with the intent to seek the Most High—can foster a deeper inner peace. It encourages us to listen for His still, small voice and to connect more deeply with His presence.

It is not about emptying the mind, but filling it with the Word of God. Through biblical meditation, we can strengthen our relationship with Him, increase our awareness of His Spirit, and grow in self-control, patience, and love.

Voices from Experience

When speaking with individuals who regularly meditate, many shared how transformative it has been for their overall health and relationship with God. They describe feeling calmer, more focused, and spiritually grounded.

For some, meditation became a form of worship—quiet moments to listen, reflect, and allow the Holy Spirit to renew their minds.

None reported negative effects; all emphasized the positive impact on their emotional and spiritual well-being.

Final Thoughts

Meditation, when rooted in faith and Scripture, is a gift that allows us to draw closer to the Creator, align our hearts with His will, and experience peace in body and spirit.

Rather than viewing meditation as something “foreign” or “sinful,” believers can embrace it as a holy discipline—a time to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10).

With the exorbitant cost of medical care and pharmaceuticals, it is time to take charge of your own health. Homeopathic remedies are a route many people are choosing as they seek natural and holistic alternatives. Although naturopathy is not licensed in South Carolina, the use of natural therapies continues to rise.

There is a wealth of information available on natural health and wellness. Below are a few foundational modalities that can help enhance and improve your health—and the health of your family—naturally and effectively.

NATURAL HEALTH & WELLNESS

TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR HEALTH— NATURALLY

The Foundation: Nutrition as Medicine

Good nutrition is the cornerstone of good health. Ann Wigmore, a Lithuanian-American holistic health practitioner, naturopath, and raw food advocate, expressed this truth eloquently:

“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”

Organic, vegetarian, vegan, and live raw foods are among the best nutritional choices for supporting overall wellness and vitality.

The Ancient Wisdom of Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of natural healing known to mankind. Today, many Americans are turning to herbal remedies to support the body through common ailments such as:

    Allergies

    Arthritis

    Digestive concerns

    Headaches

    High or low blood pressure

    Insomnia

    Kidney and urinary infections

    Menopausal discomfort

    Skin conditions

The practice of herbalism has deep roots in African, Native American, and Far Eastern cultures. Much of today’s natural medicine—and even modern pharmaceuticals—has been influenced by the knowledge passed down through these ancient traditions.

Did You Know?

No One Can Obtain Perfect Health

Although health is often defined as a balance of mind, body, and spirit, one important word is frequently overlooked: temporary.

Health is not a fixed state. Balance naturally breaks down and rebuilds as life changes. Periods of imbalance—what we call illness—exist between periods of health. For this reason, perfect health is not a permanent or attainable condition.

Illness does not always mean a doctor’s visit or bed rest. It may present as low energy, mild depression, headaches, restless sleep, or minor injuries. The line between health and illness can be so subtle that we may not even recognize when we cross it.

No matter how healthy a person may feel or appear, everyone experiences imbalance at some point. The goal, then, is not perfection—but awareness, stewardship, and restoration.

Preparing for the New Year:

A Spring Reset for Mind, Body, Home, and Spirit

The Biblical New Year Begins in Spring — March 1

Image Policy for This Feature

All images accompanying this article must be original, non-stock, and non-copyrighted. Photos should be taken specifically for this feature or submitted with written permission from the subject and photographer.

Introduction: The New Year God Established

Scripture reveals that the New Year does not begin in winter, but in spring—a season of awakening, preparation, and renewal.

“This month shall be unto you the beginning of months.” — Exodus 12:2

Biblical renewal begins with readiness, not resolutions. As March 1 approaches, women are invited to prepare intentionally—mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and within the home—so they may enter the New Year aligned and ordered.

Preparing Mentally: Renewing the Mind

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2

Mental preparation is foundational. Before action comes reflection; before growth comes clarity.

Spring is the season to:

    Examine thought patterns

    Release mental clutter

Set intentions rooted in wisdom, not pressure

    Establish stillness and reflection

A renewed mind allows a woman to move into the New Year with discernment and peace.

Preparing Emotionally: Releasing Before Receiving

“To everything there is a season…” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

Emotional preparation requires honesty. Spring invites women to let go of burdens carried too long—offense, guilt, disappointment, and fear.

Emotional preparation includes:

    Forgiveness without delay

    Healthy boundaries

Grieving what never came to pass

    Choosing rest without shame

A woman emotionally prepared does not carry yesterday’s weight into tomorrow’s assignment.

Preparing the Home: Spring Cleaning as Order and Stewardship

“Let all things be done decently and in order.” — 1 Corinthians 14:40

In Scripture, preparation of the home often preceded sacred moments. Spring cleaning is not merely domestic—it is intentional stewardship.

Preparing the home includes:

Decluttering items tied to old seasons

    Organizing for peace and function

    Cleaning with prayer and gratitude

Creating spaces that support rest, focus, and family

An ordered home supports an ordered mind.

Preparing Spiritually: Reflection and Alignment

“Prepare to meet thy God.” — Amos 4:12

Spiritual preparation anchors every other area. Before the New Year begins, women are called to draw near, reflect, and realign.

Spiritual preparation may include:

    Daily Scripture reading

    Prayer and quiet reflection

    Revisiting purpose and calling

Seeking wisdom for the season ahead

A spiritually prepared woman enters the New Year steady and confident.

Entering the New Year Prepared, Not Pressured

The biblical New Year does not demand haste. It invites readiness.

As March 1 approaches, preparation allows women to step forward with:

    A renewed mind

    A healed heart

    A stewarded body

    An ordered home

Preparation transforms the New Year from overwhelming to welcoming.
