"My son, if thou come to serve the Lord, prepare thy soul for temptation…"
Devotional Message:
To follow the Most High is to enter into a covenant not only of blessing but of refining. Sirach 2:1–6 offers a powerful message for every woman who has decided to walk uprightly before the Lord. It does not promise ease but equips us for endurance.
"Prepare thy soul for temptation" — these words are not a warning of defeat but a call to spiritual readiness. As women seeking to live holy, modest, and virtuous lives in a world that often pulls in the opposite direction, we must be spiritually armored. Trials will come. But they are not signs of abandonment—they are opportunities for purification.
"Cleave unto Him, and depart not away" reminds us that our strength is not in our own might, but in our steadfast attachment to the Lord. Whether through the storm of family struggles, personal losses, or spiritual dryness, clinging to the Father refines our trust, deepens our character, and multiplies our wisdom.
"Accept whatsoever is brought upon thee, and be patient when thou art changed to a low estate."
Patience is not passive. It is an active posture of faith, rooted in the assurance that all things work together for good to those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Your season of waiting, of weeping, of pressing—is not in vain.
For gold is tried in the fire, and the faithful in the furnace of adversity. A woman of faith is not afraid of the fire—because she knows it will not consume her, but cleanse her.
Let this passage comfort and strengthen your heart today. You are being refined, not rejected. Chosen, not cast away.
